Sedation for nervous patients
At Walton Dental Surgery we are able to offer our nervous patients two types of conscious sedation for their treatment.
INTRAVENOUS SEDATION
ORAL SEDATION
The technique of conscious sedation is designed to relax you during dental procedures.
For Intravenous sedation, a small sedative is usually given in the back of your hand or your arm. This will induce a sleepy state of deep relaxation and a feeling of not being perturbed by what is going on around you. You will need to arrange for an escort to take you home and stay with you while you recover.
Oral sedation is a well tried and tested procedure. No needles are used. You will be able to talk and respond to any instructions where necessary throughout your treatment and yet still feel very relaxed and sleepy.
You will need to attend the surgery two hours before your appointment time. You will then relax in a quiet room and be monitored at regular intervals. You must arrange for an escort to take you home and stay with you while you recover.
Conscious sedation is a safe way to have pain free dentistry, you will be looked after by a highly qualified and experienced anesthetist.
If you are a nervous patient and do not like the sounds, smells and tastes linked with dental care please ask your dentist about sedation or speak to one of our friendly staff.
We treat every patient as an individual and we take care to listen and understand your particular concerns.
